Life's a witch...and then you die.
It's the dying part vexing Bay Winchester these days. She may be a long-suffering daughter, thankless newspaper editor, and keyed-up girlfriend, but she's barely holding off a royal freak-out.
Landon's family is visiting the inn - and they're not exactly open minded. Bay is on a mission to hide her witchy ways, but the discovery of a body - and the poltergeist that accompanies it - at The Overlook tips everything into turmoil.
Landon's mother doesn't trust them - and his Aunt Blanche is moving in on Aunt Tillie's man (which is causing more trouble than anyone saw coming). That's on top of the paranormal havoc the poltergeist is wreaking in every corner of town.
Bay and Thistle are convinced Aunt Tillie knows something about the body the construction company unearthed while erecting her beloved greenhouse. The problem is, she won't admit it.
Landon is on vacation. Chief Terry is on edge. Clove is hiding something - and it has nothing to do with the poltergeist. That's on top of the fact that Bay's mom and aunts are feigning eternal ignorance.
The poltergeist is out for blood, though - and it will only settle for Winchester blood.
When everything comes to a head, a long-held Hemlock Cove secret will be unveiled - and it's not what anyone is expecting.

As usual, I laughed out loud, but this one had me giggling through nearly every word, and when I wasn't giggling, I had tears in my eyes (for the "tender moments"). I want an Aunt Tillie! Just because she makes me laugh at her stubborn antics, and reading of the frustration she must go through, keeping all 6 of those girls in line, lol! I'd take any one of the Moms for my own, and I really wish I had cousins like Bay, Clove, and Thistle! Reading these stories leaves me feeling like they are part of my family. I would do anything to have a guy like Landon, with what he's put up with, and how loyal he is. Meeting his family was wonderful, and who knew his Mom could be so cool, after all, lol.I have Loved every word in this series, each book a new adventure in joyfully Witchy insanity. This one has, so far, topped them all, though. If you haven't read it, I suggest that you MUST! I had put off reading this one, for a while after I got it, because I knew I would devour it in one morning, and sure enough, I did. =)

This book follows it's previous books with the characters remaining true to form. This story line fills the reader in on the lives of them , adding to the full portrait painted in the very first book in it's series. Each of these books I read, helps develop a total picture of the relationship of the characters, their abilities and the place in which they live. The story set allows interesting new "crimes" to solve, in a pleasant, imaginative way, while allowing the reader to be filled on some family history.
This is book 5 in this thoroughly enjoyable series. If you've read the other 4 books in this series (& if you haven't, well what are you waiting for?!) you know that the Winchester family is "eccentric". Now Landon, Bay's boyfriend's family is coming to visit at the Overlook Inn. Landon's family is just as eccentric as the Winchesters & gives them a run for their money! Even while trying to solve a 50 year old murder, & dealing with possible future in-laws (maybe), crazy fathers, & an angry poltergeist, Bay, Thistle, & Aunt Tillie manage to get in their share of laughs! I truly enjoy this series & greedily await book 6!
This book was as much fun to read as the previous four. Cousins Bay, Clove and Thistle, their mothers, Aunt Tillie and Landon are wonderful characters.
Landon's family. Mother, father and two brothers are guests at the Inn for a week and things don't go as well as planned through no fault of the Winchester women.
If you enjoy a mystery with a little romance, witches, snarky and sarcastic bickering, a poltergeist and some laugh out loud moments, then you should read this book!
I was looking for a series that I would love and not get sick of after the first couple of books. Then I found wicked witches of the Midwest, I have every book there is and I’m waiting for more. This one series I can read over and over and over again. A must read series. I have fallen in love with the Winchester women and their male counterparts. Aunt Tillie is a hoot and the girls have just the right amount of sarcasm. I can't put the books down.
I've read most of the series and kept hoping that the story plot would finally take precedence over the immature petulance of the protagonists. So far I've been disappointed. The series premise holds promise but the continuous squabbling and gratuitous bickering completely override the story. I found myself skimming the irrelevant dialogue to get back to the plot. The author freely admits that the humor she writes is not for everyone - I agree. Whereas the first book was entertaining enough and worth a chuckle or two, the "humor" has faded and in its place is tedious, unnecessary and overdone dialogue. The women are purported to be in their mid- to late-twenties; they behave and interact with each other and other characters like silly young teens and they are joined by an equally unconvincing, immature eighty-year old in their antics. I won't go into the unbelievability of an FBI agent being involved with the main character. If you have nothing else to read and don't object to mindless, idiotic banter with very little plot development, then this series is for you.
Bay Winchester is a nervous wreck because Landon's family has arrived for a week's visit and get to know each other. The construction crew uncovers a human skeleton. Aunt Tillie knows who the bones belong too and tells Bay to forget them. Bay sees Aunt Tillie go visit Mrs Gunderson in her bakery shop and eavesdrop on their conversation. Landon and his family view Bay and ask what she is doing & Bay lies to them. A town festival is happening. Bay asks a few other people if they knew Floyd Gunderson & nobody says much about him. As with the Winchester witches crazy things happen with with many screw ball antics and danger all around. A great and harlious read with great ending.
